Mary Susan Johnson Obituary

Mary Susan Griner Johnson, 83 of Tremonton, UT., passed away on April 3, 2024, following a heart attack. Her daughters, who were by her side in person or via FaceTime, had a difficult time believing that she could actually succumb to something such as this as she seemed to be one of the strongest people they had ever known. Her philosophy was always to "walk it off and keep going" as she had done so many times before. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be on this occasion.

Susan was born August 12, 1940 in Quitman, GA to Virgil Vinson Griner and Mildred Leola Ball Griner. She is survived by her children, Rise' Hodge Johnson, Marsan Hodge Hewett, Alicia Sanders Wood and Mildred Sanders Wright; grandchildren, Chad Hewett, Nate' Sushereba Davis, Ashley Hewett Kelly, Christopher Hendry, Madison Hewett, Cerani Hendry Whitehurst, Trace Bergman, Alexander Hendry, Jessica Evans, Aaron Evans, Tyler Hendry, Logan Jones, Emily Evans, and Peyton Jones Cunningham; 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Susan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marcus Ronald Johnson, Sr.; her brother, Virgil Vincent Griner; her son, Vincent Leon Griner Hodge and her great grandsons, Riker Evans, and Miles Hendry.

Susan was a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was known as a great cook and she loved to host large family get-togethers, which created many wonderful memories sitting around a full table, eating, playing games and laughing. This was generally followed by a long stroll down the oak lined dirt road on which she lived in beautiful, southern Brooks county. Susan had an affinity for old movies and an insatiable curiosity regarding the how and why of the workings of the world around her. She also loved animals and always had a menagerie of cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters, chickens, emus and one can never forget her beloved chimpanzee, Bonnie, who kept everyone entertained with her antics. Susan was a one of a kind character and will be missed.

A private service will be held, for family only in the chapel at the funeral home after visitation. The family will be receiving friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Maxwell - Purvis Funeral Home.
